About the Role
We have re shaped our Children’s Social Care Services leading to the creation of four Head of Service opportunities which are MASH & Assessment; Safeguarding and Intervention; Children in Care & Care Experienced Adults; Care Provision and Support.
Each of these roles offers an opportunity for experienced leaders in social work to play a key role in delivering excellent outcomes for children in Newham as part of our overall improvement journey.
Newham has a clear vision to provide children with the best outcomes through a practice model of restorative and systemic practice. A team of systemic practitioners led by the Director of Clinical Practice will support the application of systemic practice within all our services.
MASH & Assessment – leadership of the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub ‘front door’ of children’s social care enabling children’s needs to be understood through the partnership approach. A clear link to Early Help services providing the foundation of work with the community. Our Assessment Service focuses on collaboration with families and partners to appreciate the experiences of children leading to plans to effectively support children to remain safely with their families in Newham.
Safeguarding and Intervention – this service provides a wide range of long-term support to families, working with children subject to child in need and child protection plans, undertaking section 47 investigations, Care Proceedings and working with children in care.
Children in Care and Care Experienced Adults provides long term care and support to children in the care of Newham focusing on achieving permanence and maintaining family links. The Care Experienced Adults service supports and enables young adults who have been in the care of Newham to live independent lives with strong corporate parenting support.
Care Provision and Support Service provides alternative homes for children in care; Recruitment, assessment and support of carers including connected carers to achieve stability and permanence. Responsibility for finding new homes for children through in house and independent providers, this service is key to delivering sufficient provision for children and care experienced adults.
These positions report to the Director of Operations; Children’s Social Care and Safeguarding. Details of the specific skills and experience required are set out in the role specification.
