We value continuous learning and career development and our positive organisational change will offer fantastic opportunities for social workers who share our ambition.

We want to be a centre of excellence for Children’s social care by 2023, and the foundations of the clearly articulated ‘Newham Together’ Practice Framework based on Co-Production, Curiosity, Compassion, Confidence, Clarity and Community, a Practice Learning Framework and a Social Care Academy are now in place to help us get there.

If you are committed to changing the lives of children and young people whilst being supported in your own professional and career development then come to Newham.

Apply now, and be part of our success.

Our Safeguarding and Intervention service has a robust and supportive management structure made up of Service Managers and Team Managers across a service of an average of four teams. This service works with children in need, children with child protection plans and those who require care and legal pathways.. It benefits from a dedicated Court Case Manager, the support of Family Therapists who work alongside others to embed the practice model and Business Support

As a member of a Safeguarding and Intervention team, you will work with up to five other social workers and receive support and supervision from a Team Manager. Newham presents all of the challenges you would expect from an inner London borough with a large young population; and you will be given the tools to practice safely and effectively with children and their families. We have invested in smarter modern technology and are reducing caseloads to enable you to spend more time doing direct work.

You will be expected to be an embodiment of the 'Newham Together' practice framework and will work collaboratively with colleagues and other services, sharing our commitment to relational practice and achieving positive outcomes for our children and young people.

‘People at the heart of everything we do’

We are looking for resilient, experienced Social Workers who are passionate about improving children and young people’s lives. You are full of energy and enthusiasm, taking a creative but pragmatic approach to practice, setting SMART goals to help create change where it is needed to achieve positive outcomes for our children and their families. You already embrace our people-focused values and want to be an active part of our ‘Newham Together’ journey. You want to make a difference.

You have previous experience and an understanding of working within a diverse, urban community; and share our ambition and energy in embracing new ways of working. You are always open to learning and to helping others learn so that children and families can benefit from our best practice. You have high working standards and are conscious of your own professional development and the potential that comes with this – for you, your colleagues, and ultimately for children in their families and community.

We are looking for people who have a genuine interest in relationship based practice model drawing on systemic thinking to inform your approach to building effective relationships with children, families and communities. We need you to be passionate about improving the lived experience of children and being aspirational for them, their outcomes and celebrating their achievements. You will take your place in a culture where learning is valued and encouraged, where the voices of practitioners are respected, and where we work together as a whole service and whole system to be the change we want to see.
